Reading and Writing Club

The Reading and Writing Club is a vibrant community within the university that brings together students who share a deep passion for literature, creativity, and self-expression. Under the leadership of Maryam Abdirahman Mohamed, the Chairperson, the club thrives as a space where ideas come to life through words. Maryam is responsible for guiding the club’s vision, organizing events, encouraging active participation, and fostering a culture of creativity and academic excellence. Working closely with the executive team, she ensures that every initiative aligns with the club’s mission of promoting literacy, critical thinking, and effective communication among students.

The Reading and Writing Club provides a valuable platform for students to explore ideas, cultures, and perspectives through reading and writing. It encourages members to express themselves freely, enhances their communication and analytical skills, and contributes to personal and academic growth. Through book discussions, writing competitions, workshops, and creative projects, the club inspires a generation of thoughtful, articulate, and imaginative learners.

Guided by the divine wisdom of the Qur’an, the club draws inspiration from the verse:
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ“Read in the name of your Lord who created.” (Surah Al-‘Alaq: 1)
This verse reminds members that reading and writing are noble acts of learning and reflection, connecting knowledge to faith and purpose. The Reading and Writing Club stands as a beacon of enlightenment, encouraging students to read, write, and inspire in the name of their Creator.

Student Publication Highlight

The Reading and Writing Club proudly celebrates the literary achievements of its members, especially those whose voices inspire growth and empowerment within the faculty. One remarkable contribution comes from Shaymaa Mohamed Ahmed, the Minister of Women Affairs at FOCSA, whose dedication to uplifting female students is reflected in her written work.

Her book, “Reflections: Voices of Women in Computing,” is a powerful collection of insights and stories that highlight the experiences, challenges, and triumphs of women in the field of computing. Through her writing, Shaymaa amplifies the voices of young women, encourages confidence, and inspires a new generation to pursue knowledge and leadership within the tech world.

Her publication stands as a shining example of creativity, resilience, and academic ambition—values deeply cherished by the Reading and Writing Club.
